Hey I saw you on my visitors list and wondered how you knew that I had posted concerning homeschooling and Down Syndromes. I am very interested in your home school experiences. Your blog is beautiful.

Hi Sara! Thanks so much for stopping by!! I enjoyed my visit to your blog today.

I decided since I was meeting so many others homeschooling their children w/Ds that I would get google alerts for homeschooling and Ds. It is actually pretty rare for it to bring me a hit that actually is another blogger with a child w/Ds so I get pretty excited when I find one!

I love to share what I know about homeschooling & Down syndrome so ask away :-)

Well I don't have a child with Ds, but my sister is a home
schooler and I have just been trying to gather curriculum ideas for when my son starts K next year. Do you have any that you know are inexpensive and good.

Sara,

Knowing what I know today, I wouldn't bother spending money on a K curriculum. K should be fun and hands-on - especially for boys :-) I would just research 'k typical course of study' to know what they should be learning and work it into your days in a fun, informal manner....and spend lots of time in the library choosing good books to snuggle with. I don't really think young children (unless they have special needs and need targeted intervention) need the pressure of a formal curriculum at the age of 5. Typically developing children pick up so much informally/incidentally. There will be plenty of time to add structure as they grow but I would enjoy the time that they are little and avoid too much structure for now. My focus would be developing a love for learning and developing habits that encourage that love for learning. As a homeschooling parent, I must say that love for learning my children know has been one of the greatest sources of joy in my life!
